When Keith purchased his early 60s C10 it needed a lot of work. A full restoration later, and it’s winning drag racing competitions.
“Well, it was all torn apart,” he said. “And then no motors no transmission, no tires on it. So that’s how I got it.”
At truck shows it’s a head turner. The gun-themed truck has a 541ci engine, a patina paint job, and a shotgun to prop up the hood.
“Well, a friend of mine traded a shotgun for this truck,” Keith said. “So then I acquired the truck after he did that. And then I just named it ‘Shotgun.’”
The shotgun used as a hood prop isn’t the shotgun his friend traded. He both that shotgun at a pawn shop.
Keith has been restoring vehicles for 23 years and loves what he does. With his years of experience, he has some advice for first-timers.
“Basically, buy some good parts,” Keith said. “But depending on the shape of the car, you know whether you need to media blast and start from ground zero that way you got a good base to start with on a restore job as the most important starting to ground up.”
At the Texas C10 nationals in May, Keith competed in the drag race, winning a trophy and $500.
“Oh, man, we were blessed with that.”
